The United States rejected the visa application of writer, journalist, and former MP Mehmet Metiner despite a reference letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mehmet Metiner, a former AK Party deputy from Adıyaman, was unable to obtain a U.S. visa. It is striking that a former member of a party which once promised visa-free travel is now unable to secure a visa himself.
In a post on social media, Mehmet Metiner stated that although he had an official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his application for a U.S. visa was rejected.
Metiner said:
“I hope our Ministry of Foreign Affairs will do what is necessary in this matter. The reason is that I oppose the policies of the United States and Israel and that I have voiced this loudly in the media. This is the extent of their understanding of freedom.
To be honest, I expected that they would not grant me a visa. I was not mistaken. Nevertheless, I applied in order to test it.”
